Raised limit for small claims procedure
Shopping online makes it much easier to find affordable deals. But sometimes it does not work as it should and there is a fault with the product or delivery.
To avoid the cumbersome and expensive litigation processes, the EU now aims to increase consumers access to justice in order to assert their rights in the form of the European small claims procedure.
Previously, this has been applicable to cross-border disputes in cases involving less than 2 000 euro. But now the European Parliament informally has agreed to raise the limit to 5 000 euro. This is something that must be approved by the Parliament and the Council before it can take effect.
