I have purchased from a private person

Updated: 9/11/2014

If you make a purchase from a private person, your purchase is not considered to have occurred on a consumer-relation based level. In this case consumer rights legislation is not valid.

If you buy from a private person in another country, it is not assumed that the Swedish Sale of Goods Act applies. The main rule in cross border purchases is, according to the Rome Convention, that the law in the trader's country applies to the agreement.

Note that there are exceptions. If there is a dispute that cannot be solved, contact a legal expert or lawyer for advise on how to proceed. You might need to take your case to court.
