Lufthansa on airline strike

11/29/2016

A pilot strike at the German airline Lufthansa has led to 1 700 cancelled flights on Tuesday and Wednesday. The strike affects 180,000 passengers.

Lufthansa is cancelling 816 flights on Tuesday and another 890 on Wednesday, affecting around 82,000 and 98,000 passengers respectively, reports AP News.

The reason for the strike is that the pilot union Vereinigung Cockpit so far has refused to accept Lufthansa's bargaining on wage increases. Lufthansa has appealed to the Labour Court in Munich in an attempt to stop the strike. Late Monday, the court rejected the airline's request.

The strike has led to a total of 2 800 flights cancelled and affected about 350 000 passengers according to TT (in Swedish).
