European teenagers give out personal information on the web

2010-02-11

According to recent a study, 50% of European teenagers give out personal information on the web, information that usually can be accessed by everyone and will also be saved forever.

The European Commission would therefore like to convey a message to teenagers: “Think before you post!”. This message was paid attention to on Safer Internet Day, which was held on February 9. Actions have been taken by the 20 companies who signed the Safer Social Networking Principles last year, and although the Commission welcomes those actions, it expects the companies to do more. For example, minors' profiles need to be set to private by default and abuse reports have to receive quick and appropriate responses.
